The majority of the wells in the Hirshabelle region of Somalia are unprotected, without cover, and with no powered pump. Those wells that are equipped with hand pumps are overcrowded and splash water that drains back to the wells, thus contaminating the water in the well and spread contagious and water diseases such as cholera and COVID-19. Our solution addresses the problem of water scarcity, sanitation, and long queues that lead to the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Power Offgrid has designed affordable, highly efficient, self-cooling water pumps with in-built controllers that use permanent magnet technology to increase water supply and accessibility to Offgrid and hard to reach communities in Somalia. Since the controller is in-built, it is not subject to damage from the hot climate and operation, conflicts, or theft.
